1956 3¢ Centenary of Booker T Washington’s birthday stamp with ‘Support your Crusade for Freedom’ cancellation. Booker T Washington was born a slave, helped establish more than 5000 small community schools for black children throughout the south and was the first African American to dine at the White House- invited by Theodore Roosevelt. The location of the cabin in Franklin County, Virginia, where he was born has been turned into a National Park.
